The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change is currently consulting the public on its plans to develop a Strategy for community energy.
The consultation is framed as call for evidence and is framed by a series of questions about community energy, focusing on benefits, barriers and innovative approaches to community energy. The Community Innovation in Sustainable Energy project recently submitted its answers to these questions, and these can be downloaded here:
Our answers draw upon evidence generated through a CISE survey of 190 community energy groups, 12 in-depth case studies of community energy initiatives, over 30 interviews with practitioners in organisations concerned in the development of the sector, and analysis of a wide variety of community energy documentation.
We have a Policy Briefing that makes wider recommendations for supporting community energy, focusing on the capabilities required in government and governance.
